Hello! I’m Mishi! Today, what I want to talk about is the anime series of Ghost in the Shell. There are many series and that would get people confused so let’s summarize them up! +｡ﾟφ(ゝω・｀○)+｡ﾟ

There are 3 kinds of series. But let me introduce you guys to 4 extras too so we won’t get confused!

Sometimes, STAND ALONE COMPLEX is called SAC and Solid State Society is SSS.

Those stories are basically as the same setting as original Ghost in the Shell but the stories are independent of the original story. The personalities of characters are slightly different. Some people like movies better or some like anime version or Manga version. It is up to you to like which version of Ghost in the Shell! Story

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX

In 2030, while the high technology has improved, this world has to face the advanced crimes. To resist the criminals, Public Security Section 9 has been established. This department is under Ministry of Home Affairs and it is an independent military force. They will deal with the cyber crimes, terrorists, exposures of political graft corruption, and more. The members of Public Security Section 9 will carry out the missions in secret and reveal the crimes. But while they investigate the cases, they will run into a certain case.

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX The Laughing Man

This version summarizes Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX in 160 minutes. In short, it is the same story as Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX.

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX 2nd GIG

This is the year of 2032. Since the Fourth World War have ended, the Japanese government starts to accept many refugees from Asia. They have made 5 islands called, Dejima where the refugees can live at. But this causes Japan to feel the frustrations. This terrorist group called, the Individual Eleven occupies the embassy of China. They request to stop accepting more refugees and shut those 5 islands down. This case gets Public Security Section 9 back again. These episodes describe the pursuit of Individual Eleven, Hideo Kuze’s revolution and Japanese people’s frustration. Those will mix Japan up and bring a big disruption.

This version summarizes Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX 2nd GIG in 160 minutes. In short, it is the same story as Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX 2nd GIG.

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX Solid State Society

This is in 2034. Two years pass since Motoko Kusanagi have been missing. Without her, Public Security Section 9 is in need to reform the organization and Togusa becomes the leader of Public Security Section 9. Batou can’t get along with this new team and starts to investigate the case alone. One day, he runs into Motoko Kusanagi. She warns him that keep away from the solid state. At this time, Togusa took it as a mysterious warning but he will gradually begin to get a clue of something.

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX SOLID STATE SOCIETY 3D

The story is as same as Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX Solid State Society. The difference is basically the graphics and opening. As you see the title, this version is 3D.

 

Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX SOLID STATE SOCIETY ANOTHER DIMENSION

The story is as same as Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX Solid State Society. The difference is basically the graphics and opening. That means this is a 2D version of Ghost in the Shell : STAND ALONE COMPLEX SOLID STATE SOCIETY 3D.

 

Main Characters

 

Motoko Kusanagi (purple hair) – Main character. She is practically the leader of Public Security Section 9. When she was young, except for her brain and her spinal cord, she became a cyborg. She is a type of person who has skills of judgment, leadership, physical ability and hacking ability. She has a calm personality and gets her job done with her way. She is a member of the army of 501 at first on the series of ARISE.

Batou (left side of Motoko) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9. Since he has had an artificial eye, sometimes, he is called Sleepless Eye.

Daisuke Aramaki (center) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9 and section chief. He used to work at Defense Intelligence Headquarters. He is good at dealing with the crime of politics. He is a type of person who is humble and has respect from the people around him.

 

Togusa (Blond hair) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9. He used to be a detective but Motoko scouted him to the Public Security Section 9. He is good at information-gathering, guessing and feeling his intuition since he used to be a detective. But he sometimes gets emotional. He is the only one who has a family in this Public Security Section 9.

Ishikawa (Bearded man) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9. He used to be in the Army. He is good at analyzing information and investigating with his electric brain.

Saito (Below Ishikawa) – He is the member of Public Security Section 9. He used to be in the Navy. He is an excellent sniper. He has a special left eye that enables him to be good at long range shooting.

Paz (Far left) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9. He is the military police who is an undercover. He is good at deceiving and using a knife. He used to be a military police officer but he joined in Public Security Section 9 to use his ability.

Borma (Shaved head man) – He is a member of Public Security Section 9. He used to be in the Army. He has an artificial eye. He has the knowledge of bombs and is good at fighting with his electric brain.

My Review

 

I think these anime series are generally for adults. It might be hard to understand the story but it is because it is the futuristic world and this world has its own special words. It might be good to watch them over and over and you might be able to understand better. Usually, it is hard to watch the same stories over and over but these ones won’t let you get bored! The worldview of this series will get your attention and draw you into the world of this anime series! As the technology has been improving in this world, the human beings are becoming a cyborg so it will make you think what is the meaning of life? You might want to think about it while watching but as much as you think, it will not let you get away from this thought and things are getting hard to understand so if you want to understand the story as much as you want to, without thinking, watch it carefully. I think you will be able to understand what they are saying better with this way.

I usually don’t watch the military or police shows much but I can watch this series because it is not all about action scenes. The story contains the suspense and comedy sometimes so those factors are composed into the story and it will amuse you. But it is not only the story, the characters have the individual unique personality and stand out. Every time you go to the next episode, you will be attracted to the characters who you will like naturally. The characters help the story to be great! ヽ(`∀´)ﾉ

The series of Ghost in the Shell have many products. It was confusing me much when I was searching to know all of them. I don’t know which version is my favorite anymore since I have watched anime ones. I thought the movies were better until I have watched anime series. But these anime series also has their own story and their individuality. What I can say is Ghost in the Shell is a great masterpiece! (o^ｰ’)b It anticipates the future of ours and our world will go to this way?? Ghost in the Shell throws a satirize society and raise a question at us! The future of ours is coming close to the world of Ghost in the shell! We might have to watch this series to learn something for the future! (`･ω´･ ●) What I am saying might be exaggerating but it is really fun to watch them so I definitely recommend Ghost in the Shell to you guys who want to watch the anime or movies which are the futuristic Sci-Fi world!

At last, whatever you start to watch is fine. You can watch movies first or anime first, it doesn’t matter! What you don’t want to do is mix them together to watch. Sometimes, time is shuffled and you might get confused so watch them from first with anime or movies and go to the other one so you won’t get blonde moment!! (∩´∀｀∩)
